STEP 66 | Shape of Absence

with 03/05/26, 03/09/2026 Steps Upcoming

The Shape of Absence is an analog project based on direct intervention on exposed film. Chemicals and tools corrode the gelatin, erasing light and generating gaps: form emerges through subtraction. The film becomes a continuous narrative surface, where fragments accumulate beyond control. Intentional only in shooting and sequencing, the process unfolds through chemical unpredictability. Photography shifts from representation to matter: a physical, temporal body where images lose definition and persist as traces.

Carolina Negroni is an Italian photographer and visual artist based in Bologna. Educated at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna and Accademia di Brera, she develops an experimental analog practice focused on imperfection, materiality, and transformation, creating intimate narratives around memory and fragility.
