Yellow Brick begins the implementation of an art project, under the auspice and with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. It is a research based, performative archive that will relate issues of material culture, social anthropology, historiography and artistic practices. Part of the project will be an art exhibition with the title “No running water” at Yellow Brick, from 7-30 December 2021.
The Municipality of Nea Ionia was established immediately after the catastrophe in Minor Asia in 1923, in a non residential area, without any infrastructures, in order to house the population who were relocated in Greece, due to the forced population exchange provided for by the Treaty of Lausanne. This new residential area on the outskirts of Athens had all the particular genealogical characteristics of its inhabitants: the homogeneous composition of the population created a community that preserved cultural codes and values, social bonds and practices.
