The project is called “Beyond Layers” and is a project involving graphic design, collage and drawing that has been ongoing since 2022. Over the last five years, I have collected pages of natural and artificial signs created through drawing on blocks of company letterhead paper. The pages of these sketchbooks are then periodically torn into small, isolated shapes and randomly reassembled using the collage technique.
From the union of the different shapes of the small pieces of paper, a hidden layer emerges within the composition of signs, amongst the layers: an outline that for me represents the invisible space where the representation takes place.
With the “Beyond Layers” project, in addition to producing an album of drawings and collages inspired by the city of Athens and Greek culture, I would like to organise the drawings, collages, graphics and other artwork I have produced to date, by visualising and designing an archive that could take shape in a publication entitled, precisely, “Beyond Layers”.
