For the residency period at Yellow Brick, Juan Duque shares his current artistic research by implementing and communalizing creative artistic practices. Duque invites us to engage our sensorial attunement of coexistence, interconnection, and interrelation with and within other bodies, materials, and more than human beings, presenting other ways of being in the world.
In the open doors event Juan Duque introduces a series of ‘unfoldings’ into various artistic creative mediums. These allow visitors to enter and experience the process of his current project, ‘Ways of doing, ways of becoming with,’ and they are invited to discover and experience creative expressions through drawings, textual-based material, and objects created in close conversation with invited practitioners and the audience.

A conversation of practices, Juan Duque and Jolien Naeyaert
As a warming-up activity and starting his residency at Yellow Brick, Juan Duque shares his current artistic research, which concerns the embodied awareness of being interconnected and interrelated with and within humans and more than human entities. For this open-door occasion at Yellow Brick, Duque and the Belgium/Brussels-based engineer, architect and visual artist Jolien Naeyaert exchanged and found common points and tensions in their practice through a series of ‘unfoldings’ as learning each other’s practices. Duque and Naeyaert invite us to enter and experience the process of this current project through drawings, textual-based material, and objects created in close conversation. Simultaneously, visitors are invited to discover and experience the individual practice of Jolien Naeyaert expressed in drawing/body movement and text-based material.

(Brussels) is an independent artist/researcher and curator. His artistic practice in site-specific installation and performance via decolonial theories and practices intends to problematise understandings of space occupation and place-making by communising creative methodologies in the making (through the unfolding of diverse media such as affective drawing, body movement, and object construction). Recent projects include U-jazdowski Castle Contemporary Art Center, Warsaw (2018), Geumcheon and Seoul ArtSpace, Seoul (2014) and SAVVY Contemporary Berlin.
