“to gather (berries, money, strength): μαζεύω”
In-situ Video installation & Sound installation on the roof terrace
During the course of her residency at Yellow Brick, Julia Haugeneder has spent three months writing and collecting images. In this sculptural and film installation she shows these two components juxtaposed as an essay-film. The sculptural installation results from an examination of Greek cinema (Greek Weird Wave) and Julia’s perspective, shaped by her experiences in Vienna. We see a parable for her attempt, as a foreigner, to break through a distanced view and to absorb her surroundings in an unknown city with all senses and openness.
The essay featured in the video is published as a zine, available to view in the exhibition and online. Excerpts of conversations with Vasiliki Sifostratoudaki and Daphne Koufopanou Burt in response to this essay will be heard on the roof terrace of Yellow Brick. Parts of a subsequent conversation between Daphne and her grandmother, 93 years old and living in Athens since her marriage in 1956, are also featured.
